4 Ways to Discover Your Passions
The idea of finding your passion may sound great, but knowing how to find it can be a whole other ball game. For many people, it’s not such an easy task. And this is especially true if you’re already trying to juggle your hectic workday while getting caught up in all the distractions and commotion. But if you’re eager to pinpoint what it is that gets you motivated, it’s time to make it a priority. To help you, here are four methods you can use to discover your passions and start dedicating more time to the things you love.
Take Time to Slow Down
If you’re constantly operating at a frantic busy pace, then you’re never going to be able to find the time or energy to pinpoint your passions. In order to do this, you need to carve out some time to slow down. Finding out what you love and enjoy takes time, patience and even silence so that you can give time to notice different clues and tune into the things that draw you in and inspire you.
Become More Attentive
As you begin to slow down and give your body and mind the space to be more open and creative, it’s also important to become more attentive to the things that you connect with and enjoy. Maybe it’s writing, or talking with others or playing with kids. Whatever activities you tend to feel attracted to during your day-to-day life, try to take notice of them.
Begin to Explore
Once you start to notice certain things that spark your interest, give yourself the opportunity to explore them. If you realize that when it’s time to whip up dinner, you become immersed and excited about what you’re cooking, don’t dismiss that. Consider taking a cooking class, or hosting a dinner party to explore more about that particular interest. This will help you really discover whether something is, in fact, a passion or simply a mediocre interest.
Connect With Others
Another great method you can use to discover your passions is to connect with other people who are also trying out things that you’re interested in. Maybe it’s your BFF who’s taking a yoga class or your co-worker who just joined an art class. Try to reach out and engage with others and inquire about their experiences. This can be an excellent way to find the motivation you need to enrol in a course or class that you’ve been interested in – but have ignored – for years.
In order to pinpoint your passions, you must put the effort in by carving out time to open up, explore and take notice of all the clues around you. Not everyone gets the luxury of simply knowing what peeks their interest. So if you’re eager to find yours, try out these methods or set up an appointment with us at Ottawa Counselling.
